Art Techniques

Ana’s Art Techniques and Foundations program cultivates vital art principles and techniques and integrates art, science, conservation, and mathematics intersections. Additionally, we explore the narratives of renowned contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds and nations, showcasing how their art has not only empowered them personally but also contributed to their success and impact.

Curriculum includes:

Week 1 to Week 5
  • Week 1 - Color: Learn to identify a range of colors and emotions. The incredible world of Yayoi Kusama
  • Week 2 - Line. Your pencil is your freedom. Shantel Martin. Art as a socio-political statement
  • Week 3 - Space: The outer and inner space. Exploring the outer space with Nebulas and the moon drawings. Chesley Bonestell the art that inspired space exploration
  • Week 4 - Movement and rhythm: Drawing ocean creatures. Ernst Haeckel and his studies of the natural world
  • Week 5 - Composition: Understand different compositions with linear, radial, and diverging grids.  How Aleksandr Rodchenko works on the sides of lines and esculpture
Week 6 to Week 11
  • Week 6 - The Grid: How a grid help us to understand space and form. Chuck Close how the grid helped him to deal with his dyslexia to understand the world
  • Week 7: View point and perspective. Study of flowers
  • Week8 - Building a story: Focus and unfocus - Banksy through juxtapusition builds strong points of view. 
  • Week 9: Paintings and sand, mixing materials. inspired on the original navajo paintings using sand, earth, clay, coffe, salt. Inspired artists from Talavera Pottery, islamic art, Repousse and Robert Fathauer 
  • Week 10: Color and light. 
  • Transparency. Using Color and light to build multiple methods and effects. Creating own slides to be projected during our light show.  How Ducan wagner builds animation and lights to tell stories. 
Week 12 to Week 15
  • Week 11: Technique: Stamping patterns over paper and print. The world of M.C. Escher and Gyotaku Japanese printing
  • Week 12. Technique: Reductionism/ FInding highlights. evork Mourad and vibrating world from Dr Hans Jenny  
  • Week 13: Technique: Printmaking: Layering images. Adding details. Pushing the art work: Free form class to add elements story using all  techniques or principles
  • Week 14: Preparing showcase: Visual storytelling. explore collecting all their work and creating imaginative mixed stories
  • Week 15. Building and keeping a portfolio. Free form

Your instructor
Ana Santos

Ana earned her Bachelor of Arts from Andes University in Colombia and continued her artistic journey with studies in printmaking at the Arts League of New York and ceramics at Sculpture Space in LIC. Additionally, she pursued Digital Filmmaking and engaged in numerous programs focusing on art installations and experimental print techniques with international institutions. Ana’s multidisciplinary approach is deeply rooted in strong conceptual foundations, with preferred mediums ranging from collage and print to mixed media, multimedia, photography, performance, and drawing. Her work has been showcased internationally, notably in Colombia, Madrid, Brazil, and Buenos Aires. Currently, Ana collaborates on events with fellow artists, blending art, activism, environmentalism, and music. As a current resident of LIC Local Artists, she is driven by a passion for inspiring children and youth through art and nature, fostering transformative and innovative thinking.

Schedule

PROGRAMA ANUAL

  • Fall Semester, 15 classes: from October 5, 2024, to February 01, 2025.
  • Spring Semester, 15 classes: from february 08, 2025, to May 31, 2025.
  • FINAL Showcase:  June 6, 2025June 29, 20244

Curriculum

  • The TBC semester program for children, teenagers, and adults is offered only in person.

  • The semester program runs in a cycle of 15 classes per semester.

Payment

ENROLLMENT AND FEES

  • Save up to 7% by paying the semester fee in advance at the time of enrollment.
  • Save up to 5% on the second class.
  • Save up to 7% on the third and fourth classes.

All payments will be automatically billed on the 25th of the month prior to the current month’s schedule.

  • Fall Payment Cycle: October – January 2024.
  • Spring Payment Cycle: February – May 2025.

REFUND POLICY
If the student wishes to withdraw, they must do so 15 days before the previous month; otherwise, the tuition for the next month will be charged. You must notify TBC staff IN WRITING at the email address SBarts@thebelfrycentre. If no written notification is provided when withdrawing from classes, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL PAYMENT OF THE TUITION. No refunds will be given.

ENROLLMENT FEES
There is a non-refundable enrollment fee for all NEW students of $20 for the first student, $15 for the second student, and $10 for the third student.

Attendance Policies

  • Students are allowed a total of 3 absences per semester.
  • If more than 3 absences occur during the semester, the student may be asked to withdraw from the program.
  • Your child will not be allowed to participate in class if they arrive more than 10 minutes late to the class. They will be required to observe the class and take notes.

No, the classes are taught according to the curriculum.

Currently, we do not offer discounts for multiple siblings, but we do have discounts for enrolling in multiple classes.

No, the materials required for the classes are included in the monthly fee, except in exceptional cases.
